Workers at delivery giant Glovo are set to strike this weekend amid plans to cut up to 750 jobs nationwide – including 220 in Andalucia.
Unions have strongly criticised the move, describing it as more than just a restructuring.
‘This isn’t a simple business adjustment, it’s a direct attack on jobs, on the stability of hundreds of families, and on the right to decent working conditions,’ the CCOO said.
They argue the cuts highlight ongoing concerns about Glovo’s business model, which has long faced scrutiny over job security and working conditions – even after Spain’s Rider Law forced companies to classify delivery drivers as employees rather than freelancers.
The walkouts are scheduled in three phases:
- Friday (April 24): 8pm to midnight
- Saturday (April 25): full day
- Sunday (April 26): 12pm to 4pm
Call for public support
CCOO is urging both workers and the public to take part in the protest.
The union has called on customers not to place orders during the strike period as a show of solidarity, saying consumer action could send a clear message against what they describe as a model built on ‘uncertainty and precarious work’.
Union representatives are demanding that Glovo withdraw the planned layoffs and enter into ‘real negotiations’ with workers, while guaranteeing full respect for labour and union rights.
