A manhunt is underway after a motorcyclist allegedly knocked down a Guardia Civil officer in Mijas.
The incident happened on Wednesday morning on the A-7053, which links the town with Alhaurin el Grande.
According to police, the officer had signalled for the rider to pull over after witnessing an alleged traffic offence and intended to identify him and issue a fine.
Instead, the motorcyclist sped away, triggering a pursuit.
During the chase, the rider lost control of the motorcycle and crashed.
However, as officers moved in to arrest him, he allegedly jumped back onto the bike and accelerated away, striking one of the Guardia Civil officers in the hand and shoulder before escaping.
The injured officer suffered minor cuts and bruises and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but the suspect remains on the run.
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation to locate and arrest the rider, who police sources say is known to law enforcement and has previous convictions.
