The bodies of three people have been recovered off the western Costa del Sol.
The discoveries were made on Tuesday by Spain’s Maritime Rescue Service (Salvamento Maritimo).
According to the government’s representative in Malaga province, one body was found 22 nautical miles east of Estepona, another was recovered from a mussel farm off Estepona, while a third was located near Manilva.
Authorities believe the victims may have been migrants who attempted to swim from Morocco to Ceuta before being swept towards the Malaga coastline by strong sea currents.
The Salvamar Gadir rescue vessel recovered the bodies and transported them to Estepona port.
They have since been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Malaga, where post-mortem examinations will be carried out to establish the victims’ identities and determine the causes of death.
An investigation is ongoing.
