This is the moment a suspected tornado was caught on film in Marbella on Saturday night.

The footage was shared on X by a local resident under the username @Borjiismecaxis.

In the clip the silhouette of a tornado can be seen in the distance, in the area of Las Chapas.

The dramatic moment came amid a red alert for the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce Valley regions.

The most extreme warning from state weather agency Aemet was in place until 4am on Sunday.

In the Guadalhorce Valley, a ‘historic’ rise in various streams caused chaotic scenes in Tolox, Cartama, Alhaurin and Coin.

In the latter, video showed how a wall had been completely destroyed and partly crushed a car.

In Cartama, streets were completely submerged by flood water, which in some cases dragged rocks and debris down from the mountains.

In a post on X overnight, Andalucia president Juanma Moreno said: ‘Please, let no one lower their guard tonight in Málaga.

Por favor, que nadie baje la guardia esta noche en Málaga. Está cayendo mucha agua en municipios de la Costa del Sol y el Valle del Guadalhorce, como Cártama, Alhaurín el Grande, Coín…

Mucho cuidado, sentido común, responsabilidad y cabeza.

‘A lot of water is falling in municipalities of the Costa del Sol and the Valle del Guadalhorce, such as Cártama, Alhaurín el Grande, Coín…

‘Take great care, use common sense, responsibility, and keep your head on straight. Let’s avoid unnecessary risks.’

On Monday morning, emergency services were working around the clock to remove fallen trees from roads across the Costa del Sol.
