‘So scary!’: Earthquake of 4.8 magnitude hits Spain’s Costa del Sol as terrified Brits report shaking

The incident occurred at 10.30am on Friday near the town of Fuengirola and was felt across Malaga province.

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale has struck the Costa del Sol.

The incident occurred at 10.30am on Friday near the town of Fuengirola and was felt across Malaga province.

Second earthquake hits Andalucia after 4.8 tremor shakes the Costa del Sol

The epicentre was 79km deep, with the some of the most noticeable tremors felt in Malaga City and Alhaurin de la Torre.

Residents have reported feeling shaking that lasted for up to five seconds.

The earthquake, initially recorded as 4.2, was later updated to 4.8 by the National Geographic Institute.

One Brit wrote in an expat forum on Facebook: ‘Who felt the earthquake just now?’

A fellow expat replied: ‘Yes in El Pinillo! Everything shook for a few seconds.’

‘Yes we did, it scared me a bit!’ wrote another, while one added: ‘Yes my office shook in Torremolinos.’

Others described the incident as ‘so scary’, adding: ‘Oh my god, I didn’t know what was happening!’

There are currently no reports of personal or material damage.
