The van driver who dragged a Glovo delivery rider for nearly four kilometres along the A-7 in Algeciras tested positive for cocaine, it has emerged.
Police sources told local media the he was also behind the wheel without a valid licence, having lost all his points.
The terrifying ordeal took place last Saturday (November 29), when the 125cc motorbike rider was struck as he joined the motorway near the Puerta Europa shopping centre.
After the impact, the delivery worker was left clinging to the van’s bonnet as the vehicle sped onto the dual carriageway.
The same sources confirm that the rider – who escaped without injuries – also tested positive for alcohol.
Following the collision, the van continued along the A-7 with the Glovo worker stuck to the front of the vehicle.
Several drivers attempted to alert the motorist with horns and evasive manoeuvres, while the rider fought to keep his grip and avoid falling onto the motorway.
The shocking scene was captured on mobile phones by other road users and the footage went viral within hours.
The ordeal ended near the La Granja neighbourhood, where Guardia Civil officers managed to intercept the van and detain the driver on the spot.
He was later released after giving evidence in court, but now faces charges relating to road safety offences.
Despite speculation on social media that the van might have been transporting illegal goods, investigators have ruled out the theory entirely.
The Glovo rider, remarkably, walked away from the incident without serious injuries.
