It was a bleak day for authorities in Malaga on Monday following the discovery of two dead bodies on its coastline.
The first corpse was found at around midday floating in the waters off Mezquitilla beach, in the municipality of Algarrobo.
The alert came in at 1.40pm, when a member of the public reported seeing a body near the rocks, just off the shore in front of Calle Red.
Emergency response teams were immediately mobilised, including ambulance crews (061), Local Police, firefighters, and the Guardia Civil, which deployed a special intervention unit to recover the body.
The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown.
The Guardia Civil has confirmed the discovery but has not released further details as the investigation is still in its early stages.
At around the same time, authorities in Marbella were being alerted to an incident unfolding in the upmarket resort of Puerto Banus.
Witnesses claimed they saw a so-called ‘narcolancha’ pull up to the luxury port and dump a seriously injured man by the boat refuelling station.
A ‘narcolancha’ is the name given to semi-rigid vessels typically used by drug traffickers.
Emergency services were quickly alerted, with units from the Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil and 061 Emergency Medical Service responding to the scene.
Despite efforts from paramedics, the unidentified individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
A judicial team, including the duty judge, court clerk, and forensic doctor, was called to oversee the recovery and formal procedures.
At this stage, all possible lines of investigation remain open, and authorities have not ruled out any scenarios.
According to local reports, the man was dumped by the boat fuel station while still alive.
Although the Guardia Civil said there were no visible signs of violence, an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
The two cases are not thought to be linked at this time.
