Temperatures across Spain are expected to continue rising in the coming days, with highs exceeding 36C in parts of Andalucia over the weekend.

This warming trend is developing in a context of generally stable weather, although some regions will experience exceptions to that calm.

While much of the country enjoys settled conditions, parts of the north and northeast are still seeing instability.

On Wednesday, heavy showers are forecast in parts of the Balearic Islands and Catalonia. Rain will also continue across Galicia and the Cantabrian regions, keeping the north under damp, unsettled skies.

As the week progresses, rain is expected to persist along the northern edge of the peninsula. There’s also a continued risk of thunderstorms around the northern Mediterranean coast and parts of the Balearics.

From Thursday, temperatures are forecast to rise across nearly the entire country, with the exception of the northern third, where they’ll remain steady.

On Friday and throughout the weekend, central and southern Spain will see widespread highs between 32C and 34C.

In Sevilla, temperatures could push past 36C on Friday, while in Cordoba they will reach 35C and Granada 32C.

On the Costa del Sol, Thursday will be the hottest day, with highs of up to 32C, dipping to 31C on Saturday.

Ruben del Campo, spokesperson for Spain’s national weather agency Aemet, said: ‘It’ll be unseasonably warm for this time of year during the weekend, and that heat could well carry into early next week.’
