An investigation is underway in Gibraltar following the death of a US tourist.

The 79-year-old was visiting the British Overseas Territory with family when he died on Thursday morning.

The Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) has launched an investigation into the death.

HM Coroner is currently performing an inquest into the death, and his next of kin has been informed.

The Dudley Ward Tunnel (pictured above) was temporarily closed while emergency services responded to the scene. It has since reopened to traffic.

The US citizen was part of a group bicycle tour, according to reports.

The RGP said an autopsy will take place ‘in due course’.
