Scammers are targeting Costa del Sol residents by posing as their favourite restaurants and offering discounts, it has emerged.

In a warning sent via email, the Beach House Marbella said at least four separate clients have reported being contacted by fake representatives of the popular beach bar and restaurant.

The scammers offer the clients discounts and ask them download certain apps on their phones or devices, which are suspected to contain malicious software.

The Spanish Eye has contacted the Beach House for comment.

The restaurant said in an email to customers today: ‘We’ve recently been informed of four separate incidents where clients have received unexpected phone calls from people pretending to be us – offering fake discounts and asking to download certain apps.

‘Here’s what’s important to know: We never call guests to offer discounts or ask them to download anything.

‘Our official calls come only from our lovely reception team – Emma, Kelly or Jess – and always from our landline number +34 952 83 94 58 or WhatsApp mobile +34 617 94 62 39.

‘If you ever receive a call from a different number or someone outside our team, please be cautious and don’t share any personal info. You’re always welcome to call us directly to double-check.’

It added: ‘We’re already looking into the matter and taking the necessary steps.

‘Finally we’d like to take the opportunity to thank the people who reported the incidents to us so promptly.

‘We look forward to welcoming you back soon and thank you for your trust and understanding.’
