A SAILING boat left on a Fuengirola beach following its German owner’s mysterious death has finally been removed.

The vessel first washed ashore on November 15, after a storm in the Mediterranean caused it to drift towards the Costa del Sol.

It landed on La Cepa beach, an area popular with tourists and the British expat community.

But when boarding the boat, police discovered the body of a 56-year-old German man, who was later identified as its owner.

Incredibly, the vessel was left to languish on the shore for a total of five months.

Locals fiercely protested the government’s lack of action, citing environmental concerns.

They were finally listened to this week when the authorities employed a huge crane to lift the boat away from the shore.

The cause of death for the German owner remains a mystery to this day.

According to an autopsy, there were no obvious signs of violence on the body.
