A fourth body has been discovered off the Costa del Sol in little more than two weeks.
The latest remains were found floating in the sea off Estepona during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The deceased person was wearing a wetsuit, according to sources cited by Malaga Hoy.
No information has yet been released about the victim’s identity, nationality or the precise circumstances surrounding the death.
The Guardia Civil is expected to investigate whether the person was a migrant attempting to reach the Spanish mainland by swimming.
The latest discovery follows the recovery of three other bodies from different points along Malaga’s coastline during September.
One badly decomposed man was found floating off Fuengirola on September 26 while still wearing a flotation ring.
The body was reportedly headless and missing other parts, although investigators found no initial evidence of criminal involvement. Its condition was attributed to the length of time it had spent in the sea.
Two more bodies were recovered earlier in the month.
The first was discovered off the western Costa del Sol on September 15. A second was found in similar circumstances near Nerja the following day.
Both men were wearing wetsuits and carrying flotation devices.
The victim recovered near Nerja was also wearing swimming fins and reportedly had several mobile phones and Moroccan dirhams among his possessions.
The two men found in mid-September were believed to be migrants, although authorities had been unable to establish their identities.
Sources said those deaths were not connected to the mass entry of migrants into Ceuta at the end of July.
The Guardia Civil is now working to identify the person recovered off Estepona and determine whether the latest death is connected to the previous cases.
