Rain and thunderstorms are expected to sweep across Andalucia this weekend as cold air moves over Spain and draws moisture inland from the Mediterranean.
The unstable weather is forecast to begin spreading across the region from Friday, with Saturday currently expected to bring the most widespread rainfall.
State weather agency Aemet said showers would reach large parts of the country from Friday and continue through the weekend.
Some downpours elsewhere in eastern and central Spain could become strong or very strong, persistent and accompanied by hail.
Storms spreading from Friday
Wednesday should remain relatively settled across most of Andalucia, although isolated rain is possible over mountainous areas in Almeria and Granada.
Showers accompanied by afternoon thunderstorms could return to these eastern areas on Thursday.
The more significant change is forecast during the second half of Friday, when an area of cold air at higher altitudes will combine with humid Mediterranean winds.
These conditions are expected to encourage the development of heavier showers and thunderstorms across a much wider area.
Temperatures will nevertheless remain warm before the unsettled weather arrives, with several Andalucian provincial capitals expected to exceed 30C on Thursday and Friday.
Saturday could be wettest day
Saturday is forecast to be the most unstable day in Andalucia, with rain potentially reaching all eight provinces.
Western areas including Huelva and Sevilla could experience showers, while eastern provinces such as Almeria, Granada and Jaen are also expected to be affected.
Cloudy or heavily overcast conditions are forecast across much of mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, with storms possible from the early hours until the afternoon.
The precise location and intensity of thunderstorms remain subject to change as the weekend approaches.
Temperatures to fall
Cloud cover and rain could remain widespread across Andalucia on Sunday, when temperatures are expected to begin falling more noticeably.
Sevilla could drop from maximums of around 33C or 34C before the weekend to approximately 29C on Sunday.
Cordoba is expected to fall to around 30C.
Some instability and isolated rain could continue into Monday, although Aemet currently anticipates less cloud.
