This is the moment a cryptocurrency dealer was filmed on CCTV with his hands zip-tied behind his back after falling prey to a honeytrap plot to rob him.

Footage shared by the Guardia Civil shows the man hopping down some stairs inside an apartment block in Finestrat, near Benidorm.

The victim had been tied up and subjected to hours of ‘extreme violence’ inside his apartment by robbers demanding his cash, gold and cryptocurrency, police said.

His attackers allegedly bound his hands and feet before repeatedly assaulting him.

The stolen assets were worth almost €20,000, according to the Guardia Civil.

A 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of unlawful detention, violent robbery and membership of a criminal group.

Investigators believe the woman had spent months gaining the victim’s trust before the attack.

Information gathered during the investigation led officers from her to the man suspected of organising and leading the group.

Police brought the arrests forward after finding evidence that one of the suspects could be preparing to leave Spain.

A coordinated operation was launched to capture both simultaneously in different parts of the country.

The male suspect was arrested in Guipuzcoa, in northern Spain, while the woman was detained in Barcelona province.

The 29-year-old appeared before a duty court in San Sebastian, which ordered him to be held in provisional custody.

The woman, who is suspected of having recruited or targeted the victim, appeared before a court in Martorell.

She was conditionally released subject to precautionary measures.

The investigation, codenamed Operation Coyars, was led by the Guardia Civil’s judicial police team in Villajoyosa.

Officers from Alicante, Barcelona and Guipuzcoa also participated.

The case is being overseen by the relevant investigating section of the Benidorm Court of First Instance.

The investigation remains open and police said further action and arrests have not been ruled out.
