The Costa del Sol has once again been placed under an orange alert for extreme heat on Tuesday.
The warning from state weather agency Aemet affects the coast and Guadalhorce Valley from 1pm until 8.59pm.
Temperatures are forecast to reach maximums of 40C due to the terral, a hot inland wind that blows down to the coast and sends thermometres soaring.
Elsewhere, a yellow heat warning has been issued for the Axarquia region, where inland areas could see temperatures climb to 36C during the same period.
Health authorities are urging residents and tourists to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and check on elderly or vulnerable people.
The warnings come as much of southern Spain continues to endure a prolonged spell of intense summer heat, which has already triggered wildfire alerts across Andalucia.
Although the Costa del Sol faces another day of sweltering conditions, forecasters at El Tiempo say a change is on the way later this week.
An Atlantic weather system is expected to bring cooler air across much of Spain, helping to ease temperatures after the current spell of intense heat, although it may also trigger heavy thunderstorms in parts of the Mediterranean and northeast.
