This is the moment a bomb scare in Puerto Banus sparked a major emergency response at the weekend.

A man has been arrested after causing the chaotic scenes in the heart of the luxury Marbella port on Sunday night.

The Policia Nacional said the suspect faces charges of public disorder after part of the marina had to be cordoned off as a precaution.

The force said the man was not carrying any dangerous object when he was detained and no explosive device was recovered.

Investigators believe the suspect may have been suffering from mental health problems.

The operator of Puerto Banus has also confirmed that normal activity resumed shortly after the incident.

The drama unfolded shortly after 9.30pm on Sunday.

Witnesses said the man appeared to be holding an object and allegedly shouted threats before jumping into the water, prompting a large police response.

Videos shared on social media showed police and port security cordoning off part of the waterfront while ordering members of the public to move away.

According to the Puerto Banus concessionaire, security staff first alerted police after noticing a man displaying ‘obvious signs of altered behaviour.’

The company said the individual claimed to be carrying a weapon, leading staff to activate emergency protocols and request immediate police assistance.

The suspect was arrested after entering the water, with officers bringing the situation under control.

Authorities confirmed no one was injured and there was no damage to property.
