The body of a young man in a wetsuit has been recovered from the sea off La Duquesa in Manilva.
The grim discovery was made at around 5pm on Wednesday by the crew of a sailing boat.
It brings the total number of bodies found along the Costa del Sol this week to four.
The body was recovered by the Rio Ter, a patrol vessel belonging to the Guardia Civil’s Malaga Maritime Service.
Officials said the deceased was a man aged between 20 and 25.
According to local reports, he was wearing a wetsuit, swimming trunks and a single flipper when he was found.
The latest discovery follows three other bodies recovered from the Malaga coastline this week, in Mijas, Estepona and the Sabinillas-Manilva area.
None of the four individuals was carrying identification, prompting authorities to launch an investigation to establish their identities.
Investigators are also examining whether the deceased may have been migrants attempting to reach the Spanish coast.
One theory is that they attempted to swim around from Morocco to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa, but were dragged away by currents.
It comes as thousands of Moroccans stormed the border at Ceuta today in potentially one of the biggest illegal mass crossings in years.
