Health authorities in Andalucia have issued a food safety alert after Listeria monocytogenes was detected in a batch of Iberian fuet produced by a Granada-based company.

The Andalucian government’s Directorate-General for Public Health has ordered the recall of Carnicas Sierra Nevada Iberian Fuet, batch number 260521, with a best-before date of November 21, 2026.

The affected products have been distributed to shops in Antequera (Malaga), Granada, Maracena, Lachar and Lanjaron since June 11.

The recall has been issued as a precautionary measure to ensure a high level of consumer protection while the affected batch is removed from sale.

Health officials are urging anyone who has purchased the recalled fuet not to eat it and to return it to the place of purchase.

Anyone who has already consumed the product and develops symptoms consistent with listeriosis – including vomiting, diarrhoea or fever – is advised to seek medical attention.

Pregnant women are being urged to pay particular attention to the warning, as listeria infection can pose serious risks during pregnancy.

The regional health authority has advised expectant mothers to follow food safety guidance issued by Spain’s Food Safety and Nutrition Agency (AESAN), including avoiding foods associated with a higher risk of listeria contamination.

Officials have also reminded consumers to maintain good kitchen hygiene and avoid cross-contamination with other foods.

The alert has been reported to AESAN through Spain’s Rapid Information Exchange System, while Granada’s official food control service has been instructed to ensure the affected products are withdrawn from the market.
