The body of a man has been found floating in the sea off Fuengirola.
The grim discovery was made at around 12.30pm on Wednesday when beachgoers spotted the corpse and raised the alarm.
Lifeguards entered the sea and brought the man ashore, but there was nothing they could do to save him.
Around an hour later, emergency services received confirmation from Fuengirola Local Police that a body had been recovered from the water and was on the beach awaiting the arrival of investigators.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased nor disclosed the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the investigation.
The discovery comes after emergency services received a separate report earlier in the day concerning a missing man in the area.
According to the 112 emergency service, an alert was raised at around 8.40am regarding a 34-year-old man who had disappeared the previous day.
Investigators have not yet confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.
