Residents in Mijas have voiced growing concerns after images circulated online showing a shirtless man walking through a residential area with what looks like a large knife tucked into the back of his trousers.
The photographs, shared by local social media account Fuengirola Se Queja, were reportedly taken in Las Lagunas de Mijas, near the junction of Calle Roble and Calle Pino.
The person who submitted the images claimed they had contacted police but received no response.
‘Could you please publish these photos of a man walking around Calle Roble and Calle Pino in Las Lagunas de Mijas carrying a knife on his back?’ the post read.
‘It seems unbelievable that nobody is doing anything. I called the police but nobody answered. We cannot live with this level of insecurity.’
The images show a thin, shirtless man walking along the street with a knife protruding from the waistband of his trousers.
The post quickly attracted hundreds of comments, with many residents expressing concern about public safety.
One commenter wrote: ‘After reading all the comments saying it’s a joke, I think it’s serious that someone can walk around the streets carrying a knife. When something happens we’ll all be shocked.’

Another added: ‘Please do something. We need safety in the streets. Then tragedies happen and everyone regrets it.’
Several residents claimed they had seen the same individual previously.
One comment, which received more than 100 likes, said: ‘I’ve seen this man on numerous occasions. He talks and argues with himself and appears to be in an unstable mental state.
‘I’m worried that carrying a knife could pose a danger to other people or to himself.’
Others criticised the authorities, while some questioned whether police had been notified and urged witnesses to report any concerns directly.
It is currently unclear whether police attended the incident or whether the object seen in the photographs was in fact a knife.
The Spanish Eye has contacted both the Local Police of Mijas and the Guardia Civil for comment.
Anyone who sees someone carrying a weapon in public or behaving in a manner that could pose a risk to themselves or others should contact emergency services on 112 immediately.
