A Vox councillor in Murcia has been reported by police after allegedly threatening a migrant with an illegal pepper spray during an early-morning confrontation in the city centre.
Fernando Sanchez-Parra, 27, a member of the hard-right party’s municipal group at Murcia city council, was stopped by Local Police officers in the early hours of Saturday.
It came after a migrant parking attendant claimed he had been threatened with a self-defence spray.
The incident unfolded shortly after 4.30am in the Centrofama leisure district, a popular nightlife area in the city.
According to sources cited by La Opinion de Murcia, a 29-year-old Algerian man who unofficially worked as a parking attendant approached officers and alleged that a man had threatened him with a personal defence aerosol.
The migrant pointed out Sanchez-Parra, who was standing outside one of the area’s bars with a group of people.
Witnesses said the councillor appeared visibly nervous and agitated when officers approached him.
According to several people present, Sanchez-Parra repeatedly stressed that he was a councillor at Murcia City Council while police carried out checks.
Officers identified both him and a friend and confirmed his position as a Vox councillor.
Police later discovered Sanchez-Parra was carrying a pepper spray that was not approved for use in Spain.
The canister was seized and the politician was reported for possessing a prohibited self-defence spray, an offence that could result in a financial penalty.

He was not arrested. His companion was also reported for allegedly drinking alcohol in the street.
The migrant who accused Sanchez-Parra of threatening him has a criminal record and is known to local police, according to sources.
However, he has not so far formally ratified a complaint for threats at a police station.
Speaking afterwards, Sanchez-Parra downplayed the incident, describing it as ‘irrelevant, like forgetting to pass your car’s MOT’.
He insisted he had not sprayed the man and claimed he only considered using the aerosol because the individual had become ‘hyper-aggressive’.
‘I was close to using it, but I didn’t spray him,’ he said.
The councillor admitted carrying the canister but maintained he had no idea it was illegal in Spain.
‘That was my mistake,’ he said.
Sanchez-Parra claimed he had purchased the spray from a friend who works as a security chief and believed it was legitimate.
‘I told him I wanted one and he sold it to me. I didn’t know it wasn’t approved,’ he said.
He added that he has since purchased a legal pepper spray from a licensed gun shop.
The Vox politician also defended his decision to carry self-defence equipment, claiming he has received insults online because of his views on immigration.
‘I go out with fear, what do you want me to tell you?’ he said.
‘Sometimes I wear trousers with side pockets specifically so I can carry the spray.’
He insisted he would pay any fine imposed by authorities.
‘If the sanction arrives, I’ll pay it. I genuinely didn’t know it wasn’t legal.’
The incident remains under investigation.
