This is the moment a Policia Nacional officer was filmed pushing a female protester to the ground during a demonstration in Valencia.
The incident took place outside the regional Education Ministry building, where trade unions were meeting with officials from the regional government on Sunday.
Video circulated by unions shows a woman falling to the ground after being pushed by an officer during the protest.
The clip quickly sparked criticism from union representatives and education leaders, prompting a swift response from government officials.
Valencian Government Delegate Pilar Bernabe described the images as ‘unacceptable’ and confirmed that an investigation had been launched.
‘We are going to investigate what happened thoroughly in order to establish responsibilities,’ she said.
Bernabe also described the incident as ‘totally incomprehensible’ and warned that it risked overshadowing the work carried out by police during recent demonstrations.
‘It is a totally incomprehensible event that tarnishes the work of the police during these three weeks of demonstrations, which have taken place in coordination with the organising unions,’ she added.
Sources from the Government Delegation in the Valencian Community stressed that the right to protest is protected by Spain’s constitution and must be guaranteed by security forces.
They described the scenes shown in the video as ‘intolerable’.
‘The right to demonstrate is a constitutional right that must be guaranteed by the State Security Forces and Corps, while also ensuring the safety of everyone exercising that right,’ the delegation said.
Trade unions and the Assembly of Primary School Headteachers in the Valencian Community have also condemned what they described as an ‘aggression’ against the protester.
They have demanded explanations from the Government Delegation, which officials say remains in regular contact with union representatives.
