An 80-year-old woman has died after being struck by a cyclist on the Costa del Sol.
The victim suffered serious injuries in the collision, which took place on the N-340 in Almayate, near Velez-Malaga, on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were alerted at around 8.10am after a passerby reported that a woman was lying injured and bleeding at the roadside.
The incident happened at kilometre 267 of the N-340, on the carriageway heading towards Malaga.
It is not clear why the woman was walking on the road at the time of the incident.
Paramedics rushed to the scene alongside officers from the Local Police and Guardia Civil.
The woman received emergency treatment before being transferred to the Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquia in Velez-Malaga.
Despite doctors’ efforts, she succumbed to her injuries several hours later, health sources confirmed on Sunday.
Authorities have not yet released details about the circumstances leading up to the collision, nor whether the cyclist involved suffered any injuries.
The investigation continues.
