A 58-year-old Dutch motorcyclist has died following a crash involving a van on a dangerous stretch of road near Torrevieja.
The fatal collision happened on Thursday afternoon on the first kilometre of the CV-949 road, in the area surrounding the La Pedrera reservoir.
According to initial reports, one of the vehicles crossed into the opposite lane while navigating a very tight double bend.
Emergency responders who arrived first at the scene attempted CPR on the victim, but were ultimately unable to save his life.
The Valencian Emergency Coordination Centre (CICU) said it received the alert at 3.10pm and dispatched both a medical helicopter and a SAMU advanced life support ambulance.
The deadly crash is the latest serious accident on the roads surrounding the La Pedrera reservoir, an area long considered a blackspot for collisions involving motorcyclists, cyclists and tourists.
Just one year ago, a 29-year-old Italian man living in Torrevieja died following another collision between a motorcycle and a car on the nearby CV-925.

Earlier this April, three Irish cyclists aged 56, 59 and 62 were also seriously injured after being struck by a car while joining a roundabout on the same road.
The CV-925 and adjoining CV-950 roads are heavily used by foreign residents and tourists in the Vega Baja area.
The routes are especially popular with motorcyclists, cyclists, hikers and visitors heading to the reservoir viewpoints.
Authorities previously installed speed bumps and additional parking areas along the dam route in late 2022 after concerns over dangerous driving and illegal motorcycle racing in the area.
Despite those measures, the roads continue to see a high number of serious accidents and fatalities.
