A bomb scare sparked a major police operation in one of Marbella’s most exclusive residential areas on Tuesday, after authorities received a warning linked to a luxury property in Nueva Andalucia.
The alert prompted the Policia Nacional to activate emergency protocols and seal off parts of the Los Naranjos area.
Police sources confirmed the alert ultimately proved to be a false alarm, although an investigation remains ongoing.
A large number of officers from multiple units were deployed to the scene, establishing a wide exclusion zone around the property while bomb disposal specialists from the Tedax unit carried out a detailed inspection.
The operation caused major traffic disruption and mobility problems for motorists attempting to move through the area.
Witnesses described seeing a heavy police presence around the Rotonda de Cibeles and Calle Pleyades, with some drivers reportedly unable to move their vehicles for more than an hour.
Others said a police helicopter circled overhead throughout the operation.
Once specialists confirmed there was no explosive device, the security cordon was lifted and officers gradually withdrew from the area.
However, police say inquiries are continuing to determine whether any criminal offence may have been committed in relation to the false alert.
One local resident who shared photos from the scene said: ‘Some friends have warned me that there’s been a bomb threat on Calle Osa Mayor in Aloha.
‘All the streets are blocked off and nobody can get through, neither on foot nor by car.
‘What a summer we’re in for, it’s clear it’s already begun.’
The Spanish Eye has contacted the Policia Nacional and Marbella town hall for comment.
