A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck in waters off southern Spain during the early hours of Friday morning, according to Spain’s National Geographic Institute.
The tremor was recorded at 3.37am in the Gulf of Cadiz, off the Atlantic coast of Cadiz province in Andalucia.
Data published by the Instituto Geografico Nacional showed the earthquake occurred at a depth of 30km, with its epicentre located at latitude 35.8384 and longitude -7.5998.
Authorities said the quake was ‘felt’, although no injuries, damage or incidents had been reported as of Friday morning.
The movement was officially logged as part of ongoing seismic monitoring in the Gulf of Cadiz region.

It is an area known for regular tectonic activity due to its location near the boundary between the African and Eurasian plates.
