A Guardia Civil officer has been found shot dead alongside his wife and 20-year-old son in Alicante.
The grim discovery was made Saturday morning in the home situated in the town of Dolores.
The bodies were discovered inside official accommodation used by the 55-year-old officer, who served at the main Guardia Civil post, according to local reports.
Investigators have so far released very few details about what happened, with authorities maintaining strict secrecy around the case while inquiries continue.
Sources close to the investigation said all three victims suffered gunshot injuries.
Officials are now working to determine the exact sequence of events and what led to the deaths.
Police sources also stated there were no previous reports or known history of gender violence linked to the family.
The deaths have sent shockwaves through the Alicante province municipality, where the Guardia Civil officer was reportedly well known locally.
In response to the tragedy, Dolores Town Hall has declared three days of official mourning and suspended all planned festive activities in the town.
