A jury has unanimously found a man guilty of murdering a 79-year-old French expat in Almeria.
The thug also hid the body before fraudulently using the victim’s bank cards, the court heard.
The defendant, named only as A.E.M., was convicted of homicide, robbery, fraud and moral integrity offences over the killing which took place in the early hours of August 23, 2023.
The court heard how A.E.M. targeted the vulnerable French pensioner at his remote home in the expat haven of Vera.
He then killed the elderly man before taking his belongings including two mobile phones, cash, passport, ID and bank cards.
The next day, A.E.M. returned to the scene armed with a pickaxe and shovel, which he used to bury the victim’s body.

The body has still not been recovered over two and a half years later.
The killer then went on to make a series of withdrawals totalling around €5,000 from cash machines across southern Spain using the stolen bank cards.
Prosecutors are now demanding a 22-year prison sentence for A.E.M. due to the severity of the crimes.
The judge is set to hand down the final ruling.
