Elon Musk has launched a fresh attack on Pedro Sanchez, accusing him of ‘high treason’ over the government’s controversial migrant regularisation plan.
The comments were posted on Musk’s social media platform X, where he responded to a user criticising the Spanish prime minister’s recent remarks on immigration policy.
‘The dirty Sanchez is guilty of high treason,’ Musk wrote, echoing previous insults he has directed at the Spanish leader in recent months.
The latest row follows Sanchez’s appearance at a progressive summit in Barcelona, where he defended plans to regularise up to 500,000 undocumented migrants – a move strongly opposed by conservative parties.
‘Spain is the daughter of migration and will not become the mother of xenophobia,’ Sanchez said, in a pointed message aimed at critics from across the political right.
The policy has sparked fierce debate nationwide, with several regional governments and opposition parties moving to challenge the decree.
A pattern of attacks
This is not the first time Musk has targeted Sanchez. In previous posts, he has labelled him a ‘traitor’ and a ‘tyrant’, particularly in response to both migration policies and proposed restrictions on social media access for under-16s.
His repeated comments have drawn criticism in Spain, where political leaders – including Sanchez himself – have increasingly warned about the influence of powerful tech figures on public debate.
Sánchez hits back at ‘oligarchs’
Speaking at a PSOE event in Huelva at the weekend, Sanchez took aim at what he described as ‘oligarchs’ exploiting digital platforms for profit at the expense of public wellbeing.
He argued that harmful content – including manipulated images and hate speech – cannot be defended under freedom of expression, and warned against the spread of racist narratives targeting migrants.
‘Stigmatising those who contribute honestly to the economy is not freedom of speech,’ he said, doubling down on his government’s stance.
