Granada’s Sierra Nevada ski resort has opened more than 100km of skiable terrain for the first time this winter season.
According to Cetursa, the publicly owned company that manages the resort, Sierra Nevada has opened a total of 101.4 kilometres of pistes, with a vertical drop of 1,200 metres.
Snow depths range from 30 to 100 centimetres, with conditions described as powder snow across the mountain.
In total, 22 ski lifts are operating, giving access to a wide range of runs suitable for different ability levels.
The milestone comes after the resort marked New Year’s Eve with its traditional countdown celebrations, which this year were broadcast live across Andalucia by Canal Sur Television, placing Sierra Nevada firmly in the regional spotlight.
The holiday atmosphere is set to continue in the coming days.
The resort has scheduled children’s film screenings in the afternoons, while one of its most popular traditions returns on January 5, when the Three Kings’ Parade will once again descend the mountain along the Pista del Río, combining winter sports with Andalusian festive culture.
