Police in Catalonia are investigating the death of Isak Andic, billionaire founder of fashion giant Mango, as a potential homicide, with his own son now reportedly under suspicion.
The 71-year-old died on December 14 last year after plunging 150 metres during a hike through the Collbato salt caves, near Montserrat.
Isak was accompanied by his son Jonathan Andic and his partner, Estefania Knuth, who were the last two people to see him alive.
Initially ruled an accident, the case was closed weeks later. But in March 2025, a court in Martorell quietly reopened the investigation after new police and forensic reports raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding Andic’s death.
According to respected Spanish newspaper El Pais, inconsistencies in Jonathan Andic’s statements were the catalyst for renewed scrutiny.
His version of events reportedly did not align with evidence gathered from the terrain and scene inspection.
Police sources say that although no direct evidence points to a criminal act, discrepancies in timelines, witness accounts, and forensic details have created enough doubt to ‘question whether it really was an accident’ and ‘move closer to the hypothesis of homicide.’

Surveillance footage from the area and previous tensions between father and son – including an argument shortly before the fall – are said to have further fuelled suspicion.
Investigators have also reportedly taken into account testimony from Estefanía Knuth, who is said to have described a strained relationship between Isak and Jonathan.
Her remarks have become a key element in what has now entered a second phase of inquiry, still under judicial secrecy.
At the time of his death, Andic remained one of Spain’s most successful entrepreneurs, having built Mango from a small shop in Barcelona into a global fashion empire.
His son Jonathan Andic, current vice president of Mango’s board, had long been viewed as heir to the brand.
The Mossos d’Esquadra continue to gather evidence and testimonies. While no charges have been filed, the reclassification of the case as a potential homicide is a major development in the high-profile investigation.
