A baby has been rescued from a locked car left in direct sunlight in Sevilla as temperatures outside reached around 40C.
The child’s parents were later arrested by the Policia Nacional on suspicion of abandoning a minor.
Police were alerted after a passer-by heard the baby crying inside the vehicle, which was completely closed with its doors locked and parked in full sun.
Officers rushed to the scene and found the infant showing signs of severe heat exposure.
According to police, the baby’s face was red, its clothes were soaked with sweat and it was suffering from heat congestion.
Faced with the potentially dangerous situation, officers forced their way into the vehicle and removed the child.
An ambulance was called and the baby was taken to a health centre to undergo medical checks.
Parents had gone to a supermarket
The child’s parents subsequently returned to the vehicle and were questioned by officers.

They allegedly told police that they had left the baby inside the car while they went shopping at a nearby supermarket.
Both were subsequently arrested for abandoning a minor.
The incident occurred during intense summer heat in Sevilla, with the outside temperature at the time estimated to be around 40C.
Temperatures inside a closed vehicle exposed to direct sunlight can rise rapidly and become dangerous within a short period, particularly for babies and young children.
