A woman who plunged to her death from a motorway bridge is believed to have taken her own life.
The 65-year-old fell from bridge on the AP-7 motorway in Marbella at around 8.40am on Tuesday.
The bridge was located just before the Nagüeles exit.
Several drivers who witnessed the scene immediately alerted 112 Andalucia.
Some callers initially questioned whether the fall had been accidental or intentional.
Authorities later confirmed that the woman had taken her own life. The Policia Nacional, Guardia Civil Trafico and paramedics arrived quickly at the scene but were unable to save her.
The tragedy comes amid growing concern about mental health and suicide risk in Malaga.
According to the Telefono de la Esperanza, a local mental health helpline, the organisation received 436 requests for help in the first half of the year. In 91 of those cases, there was evidence of suicidal thoughts or behaviours.
The NGO told El Español that 75 of the calls cited loneliness and social isolation as underlying issues.
