Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez has vowed to airdrop 12 tonnes of food aid into Gaza.
The PSOE leader made the promise during a press conference on Monday, in which he gave his review of the political year as the government embarks on its summer break.
He said ending the famine in Gaza is a ‘moral, political and humanitarian imperative’, branding it a a ‘catastrophe for all humanity.’
Sanchez detailed the government’s plan to send ‘thousands of kilos’ of food to the territory this Friday via parachutes and Spanish Armed Forces aircraft.
Spanish Air Force personnel are working at the Zaragoza air base to adapt an A400M aircraft and all associated logistics to transport 12 tonnes of aid to Gaza, the Ministry of Defence confirmed on Monday.

The operation involves loading packages with a net prepared for their release and using parachutes during the descent, similar to the one in March 2024, in which dozens of soldiers from the 31st Wing and the Operations Command participated, reports Cadena Ser.
In a post on X, Sanchez said: ‘Stopping the famine in Gaza is a moral, political, and humanitarian imperative.
‘The Government is already preparing a shipment of food for the Strip.
‘But the only true solution is for Netanyahu to activate a ceasefire, open the land humanitarian corridor, and end this barbarity.’
