The highest-earning speed cameras in Spain have today been revealed thanks to a study using data collected by the country’s traffic authority (DGT).
The analysis by the European Motorists’ Association found that Andalucia was the region to issue the most speeding fines last year, clocking 27.8% of the 3,440,665 total.
Meanwhile, Malaga province had the highest-grossing camera in the region and the second highest in Spain.
In the national ranking, five speed cameras in Malaga province are among the 50 highest-earning in the country.
Leading the way is the camera on the A-7 highway near El Palo, specifically at kilometer 968. This fixed camera issued more than 67,500 tickets in 2024.
Given that the minimum fine for speeding in Spain is €100, it equates to more than €6,750,000 worth of sanctions against drivers.
It is the second hardest-working camera in the country, behind the one located at kilometer 30 of the M-40 highway in Madrid.
In Malaga province, the speed camera on the A-45, located at kilometer 128 near Casabermeja, is the second-highest earner (fifth nationwide), with 49,378 fines last year and 33,310 in 2023.
In eighth and ninth place in the national ranking are the speed cameras located at kilometer 978 of the A-7 (in Rincon de la Victoria) and at kilometer 10 of the MA-20 (in the Carlos Haya tunnel, in Malaga city), with just over 33,000 fines each last year.
Finally, the speed camera at kilometer 118 of the A-45 highway near Villanueva del Cauche, ranked 36th in the national ranking, issuing 14,360 traffic tickets in 2024.
