A British woman who died in a horror jet ski accident on the Costa del Sol has been named as Debra Wright.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of reckless homicide after allegedly ploughing his boat into the jet ski that was carrying Debra, 43, and being piloted by her husband.

According to her Facebook profile, Debra worked as a teaching assistant and is married to Ashton Town FC chairman Chris Wright.

The club said in a post on X: ‘It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that on behalf of Ashton Town FC we announce the tragic death of Debra Wright, wife of Chris, our chairman, who was tragically killed whilst on holiday in Spain on Saturday evening.

‘Our family are in mourning at this sad time and we ask for time for Chris and his family and everyone at the club to be able to start to come to terms with this tragedy. RIP Debra, fly high, sweetheart x.’

The tragedy unfolded just after 7.25pm on Saturday off Playa de los Toros, when frantic witnesses called emergency services to report a high-speed collision.

According to the Guardia Civil, both vessels had been touring the coast together.

The boat was being piloted by a friend of the Wrights, according to Spanish reports.

For reasons still under investigation, the boat reportedly veered into the jet ski.

Rescue services, including the Gadir Maritime Rescue and 061 medics, rushed to the scene but were unable to save Debra.

The pilot, who allegedly failed a breathalyser test at the scene, is also facing charges of driving under the influence.

However, sources close to the case told Diario Sur that the alcohol reading ‘was not particularly high’.
