The victim of Monday night’s shooting in Mijas was British, it has emerged.
The 32-year-old was gunned down in Sitio de Calahonda at around 8.10pm, in what police believe was a gangland killing.
A dark-coloured Seat Cupra car was found torched near the murder scene, with a gun inside.
Police are now investigating whether the same gun can be matched to the assassination-style hit.
The Policia Nacional force believe the victim was executed as part of a settling of scores linked to organised crime, reports respected local newspaper La Opinion de Malaga.
Sources said they have not ruled out the possibility that several people were involved in the murder.
One theory is that the killer, or killers, had been waiting for the victim to pass by the spot where he was shot to death.
He is believed to have been walking home after playing a game of football.
The area is near to Monte Paraiso, a development of villas popular with British expats.
Witnesses told emergency 112 operators that they heard ‘eight or 10 gunshots’ in the street, according to police sources cited by Diario Sur.

The Guardia Civil and local police were immediately dispatched to the scene alongside paramedics.
The shooter has yet to be located while the investigation continues. Not much is known about the victim, other than he is a ‘young man’.
