The Costa del Sol has witnessed a bleak start to the long Easter holiday weekend.

In less than 24 hours it has seen two shootings, a fatal drink-driving car crash and an alleged arson attack on a chiringuito (beach bar).

The drama began with a shooting in Malaga city at around 3pm on Thursday.

Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots following a brawl in the Portada Alta district.

At least one person was hit by a bullet and taken to hospital. Their condition remains unknown.

A few hours later, in Fuengirola, a drunk driver crashed into a lamppost, killing the 47-year-old front seat passenger and a 25-year-old pedestrian.

The driver, reported to be a woman of Iranian origin, has been arrested and will be dragged in front of a judge on Saturday.

It came after police detected alcohol in her system and found she was driving without a licence.

A baby and three other men were among the other people injured. The three men remain in a serious condition this evening.

The tragedy occurred following a day of Maundy Thursday celebrations, one of the most important during Semana Santa (Holy Week).

But the chaos did not end there, as just hours later, a beach club caught ablaze in Torremolinos.

Silencio Beach was filmed engulfed by flames in the very early hours of Friday.

The club said in a statement that authorities believe the fire may have been started intentionally.

The venue vowed to return ‘stronger than ever’ after images of emerged of it having been completely gutted by the inferno.

The emergency services’ night did not end there, as a shooting was later reported in Puerto Banus.

A 34-year-old was reportedly shot in the shoulder outside a nightclub near Principe Salmam avenue.

The area has two nightclubs, one of which was hosting an international DJ on Thursday night.

According to witnesses, the shooter was seen jumping into a car and fleeing the scene. The investigation continues.
