Four people have been arrested after police observed them allegedly exchanging a rucksack filled with a kilo of cocaine in Benidorm.

The two men and two women, aged between 39 and 47, were detained after officers saw the suspected handover in a car park.

The Policia Nacional had opened an investigation following a tip off from local residents about a man selling drugs in the area, principally cocaine.

The suspect was said to be using several different vehicles to travel around in and complete deliveries.

Officers established a surveillance operation and discovered that the suspected contacted potential buyers through multiple apps before driving to meeting places.

During one surveillance operation, officers followed the man to a car park in Benidorm.

He met with the other suspects and spoke with them before members of the group approached the boot of his vehicle, where a backpack had been placed.

Believing that a drug transaction could be taking place, officers moved in and identified those present.

Inside the backpack they discovered a wrapped package containing a substance later confirmed to be cocaine.

Officers also searched two properties linked to the main suspect in L’Alfas del Pi and La Nucia.

Police confiscated three vehicles and two mobile phones as part of the investigation.
