A pedestrian has died after being struck by multiple vehicles while walking along the A-7 motorway in Malaga in the early hours of Sunday.
The alarm was first raised at around 12.15am, when several witnesses called the 112 emergency service to report seeing a person walking along the motorway near kilometre 995 in the direction of Malaga.
The Guardia Civil’s traffic division was dispatched to the area.
However, around 45 minutes later, at approximately 1am, further calls were made by motorists reporting that a person was lying in the carriageway.
The pedestrian had reportedly been hit by several vehicles.
The 112 control centre immediately mobilised the 061 health emergency service, Guardia Civil traffic officers and road maintenance teams.
Emergency responders subsequently confirmed that the pedestrian had died at the scene.
No details about the victim’s identity, age or nationality have yet been released.
The circumstances surrounding why the person was walking along the A-7 are also currently unknown.
The death is the latest in a series of fatal pedestrian incidents on the busy Costa del Sol motorway this summer.
On July 22, a 74-year-old man was killed on the A-7 in Marbella after reportedly getting out of his broken-down lorry.
The incident occurred at around 1.45am near kilometre 1,047 in the direction of Malaga.
According to Malaga’s traffic management centre, the man’s lorry had broken down and he was struck by a car after leaving the vehicle and entering the carriageway.
It came just weeks after a 17-year-old Norwegian girl was killed on the A-7 near La Cala de Mijas in the early hours of July 6.
The teenager had been reported missing after she was last seen at Funky Buddha in Puerto Banus following celebrations with other young Norwegians.
Investigators later confirmed that she was the victim of a fatal collision on the motorway.
