A new direct flight will connect the Costa del Sol with one of France’s most glamorous seaside destinations from next summer.
EasyJet will begin flying between Malaga and Biarritz on May 7, 2027, as part of seven new routes linking Spanish airports with destinations in France and the UK.
The service will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, making the elegant resort an easy option for a long weekend.
Flights will take around one hour and 35 minutes, with return tickets available for under €100 on selected dates, depending on availability.
Biarritz sits in the French Basque Country, close to the Spanish border, and is celebrated for its beaches, cuisine, grand architecture and world-famous surf scene.
Yet long before it became a playground for Europe’s wealthy, it was a modest fishing community whose residents hunted whales in the Bay of Biscay.
Its transformation began during the 19th century, when sea bathing became fashionable among European aristocrats.
French writer Victor Hugo was captivated by the town but reportedly feared that it would become too fashionable.
Biarritz later reinvented itself as one of Europe’s leading surfing destinations.
The sport is said to have arrived during the filming of The Sun Also Rises in the 1950s, when American screenwriter Peter Viertel brought a surfboard from California and took to the Atlantic waves.
Today, the Plage de la Cote des Basques attracts surfers from around the world, while the town’s restaurants, markets and coastal walks make it equally appealing to non-surfing visitors.
