Almost one in three people in Andalucia do not expect to take a summer holiday this year, according to a new regional survey that suggests many households are continuing to feel the financial squeeze.

The latest Andalucian Barometer, published by the Foundation for Andalucian Studies (Centra), found that 29.9% of residents have no plans to go on holiday this summer.

A further 15.8% said they are unlikely to make any holiday plans, meaning almost half of Andalucians are expected to spend the summer without travelling or taking a break from their usual routine.

The findings are based on interviews with 3,600 Andalucia residents carried out between June 19 and July 2.

The survey found that 38.5% of respondents have already organised their summer holidays, while 15.5% said they intend to make plans soon.

When it comes to spending, 38% expect to have the same holiday budget as last year, while 18.2% said they will have less money available.

Among those taking a holiday, the most popular option is visiting another town or city within Andalucia, chosen by 25% of respondents.

Meanwhile, 18.8% plan to rent a beach apartment or stay in a holiday home they own, while 8.7% intend to opt for inland cultural or gastronomic tourism.

The survey also found that 33.4% of holidaymakers plan to travel to another province within Andalucia.

Some 16.4% will visit another region of Spain, 13.3% will stay within their own province, and 12.5% are planning a trip abroad.
