BBC television personalities Tom and Terry have reassured fans they are safe after getting caught up in the wildfire that tore through their adopted home of Bedar in Almeria.

The couple, who appear as experts on the BBC’s Shift the Thrift and also run the popular Thrifting with Tom and Terry YouTube channel, shared an emotional message after their village was evacuated.

‘We just wanted to let you know we are safe,’ they wrote on social media.

‘Many of you have already seen on international news that our village of Bedar and many surrounding villages were evacuated last night due to a devastating wildfire that has swept through our region.

‘Thank you everyone for all your kind messages of concern. We are safe.

‘Ourselves and all the people affected by this terrible tragedy are in shock. Thanks again. Love Tom & Terry.’

It comes as emergency crews continue searching the scorched landscape following what has become the deadliest wildfire in Andalucian history.

At least 12 people have died, while Guardia Civil officers are continuing painstaking door-to-door searches of isolated homes and rural properties in case more victims are discovered.

Formal missing person reports also remain under investigation as the identification process continues.

Authorities have confirmed that biological samples from the victims have been flown to Madrid for DNA analysis, with no official identities released so far.

The wildfire, which broke out on Thursday afternoon near Los Gallardos, has burned thousands of hectares of countryside, destroyed homes and forced the evacuation of more than 1,400 people.

Bedar was among the communities ordered to evacuate as flames advanced rapidly through the mountainous terrain.

The village is home to a sizeable international community, including many British residents.
