This is the sobering moment the Guardia Civil carried out door-to-door checks at ground zero of the deadly Almeria wildfire.
In footage shared by the force, officers are seen carrying out the painstaking task of searching homes one by one for possible victims following the historic inferno in Los Gallardos and Bedar.
The four-minute clip reveals just how difficult the terrain is to navigate even on a sunny day, with sweeping valleys and steep cliffs barely stitched together by dirt track roads.
One can only imagine how difficult it would have been to safely escape the area while surrounded by walls of flames and thick black smoke.
In the video, officers are seen walking through burned driveways and isolated rural properties as they inspect every home, farmhouse and outbuilding with shovels in hand.
Authorities confirmed on Saturday morning that no additional victims had been found overnight, although the search operation remains in full swing as emergency teams continue looking for people still reported missing.
With daylight returning on Saturday, Guardia Civil officers resumed searches in areas that have now been declared safe enough to enter, combing through isolated homes, ravines and scattered rural settlements that were overrun by the flames.
The operation has now entered its third day, with firefighters, police officers and rescue teams working almost continuously since the blaze erupted on Thursday.
The physical and emotional strain is becoming increasingly evident among those on the ground, but the search for missing people continues unabated.
The Guardia Civil said around 50 people were evacuated from the El Marchal area, while officers continue inspecting fire-damaged properties to ensure nobody remains inside.
For the moment, the force says no further victims have been located.
Meanwhile, the number of formal missing person reports has risen to seven, after five new reports were filed on Friday.
Investigators stress that every report is being examined as officers continue their house-to-house searches across the burned landscape.
The wildfire has claimed 12 lives, injured eight people and scorched thousands of hectares across eastern Almeria.
Major roads remain closed, including a section of the A-7 between kilometres 709 and 714 and the AL-6109
