A taxi driver has been arrested after police discovered cocaine, marijuana and smuggled erectile dysfunction pills hidden inside his vehicle in the Campo de Gibraltar.
The arrest was made during the early hours of Saturday, July 4, at a routine Policia Nacional checkpoint in the San Garcia area of Algeciras, on the road to Getares.
According to police union Jupol, officers became suspicious after noticing the driver’s unusually nervous behaviour as he approached the checkpoint.
A search of the taxi allegedly uncovered quantities of marijuana, cocaine and tusi – also known as pink cocaine – along with a smuggled medication from Gibraltar described as having effects similar to Viagra.
The driver was arrested at the scene, informed of his rights and taken to a police station, while the taxi was seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Jupol said the case highlights the daily work carried out by Policia Nacional officers in the Campo de Gibraltar, one of Spain’s busiest fronts in the fight against drug trafficking.

The union argued that operations like this take place regularly but often receive little public attention or official recognition.
It also criticised what it described as a lack of support from the Interior Ministry, saying frontline officers working against organised crime deserve greater recognition for their work.
