A mother and daughter have been found stabbed to death inside a burning apartment in Mijas.
Emergency services were initially called to an apartment on Calle Tulipan in Las Lagunas at around 2.15am.
It came after neighbours reported flames and smoke coming from the property.
Firefighters from Mijas, paramedics, the Guardia Civil and Local Police were all dispatched to the scene.
After entering the home, firefighters discovered the bodies of two women.
When they were recovered, it became apparent that both had suffered multiple stab wounds, La Opinion de Malaga reports.
The victims have been identified as a Spanish mother and her daughter.
No arrests have yet been announced.
The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the investigation, while Spain’s VioGen gender violence monitoring system is already examining the case as a suspected incident of gender-based violence.
Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings and the fire.
