Sevilla’s mayor is set to lead a trade mission to Canada aimed at attracting investment, boosting high-end tourism and securing the city’s first direct air links with the country.
Jose Luis Sanz will travel to Montreal in the coming weeks alongside a delegation from Sevilla City Council, including Tourism and Culture councillor Angie Moreno.
A key objective of the visit will be talks with airlines about launching direct flights between Sevilla and the city, a move the council believes would strengthen tourism and business links with North America.
The delegation will also meet technology companies in Montreal, one of Canada’s fastest-growing innovation hubs, in a bid to attract investment and encourage collaboration with Sevilla’s own technology sector.
Another major item on the agenda is a meeting with executives from luxury hotel chain Four Seasons, which is preparing to open its a hotel in Sevilla’s Plaza Nueva.
The ultra-luxury property is expected to become one of the city’s flagship hotels and is seen as a significant vote of confidence in Sevilla as an international tourism destination.
Mayor Sanz said the mission forms part of a wider strategy to promote Sevilla as a leading destination for investment, technology and premium tourism.
‘This trade mission responds to a very clear strategy: to seek opportunities for Sevilla, attract investment, create jobs and continue consolidating our city as one of southern Europe’s major economic, technological and tourism capitals,’ he said.

He added that Canada represents a market with ‘enormous potential’ for Sevilla and said the city hopes to strengthen institutional and business ties while expanding its international flight network.
Sanz also pointed to the forthcoming Four Seasons hotel as evidence that major global brands increasingly see Sevilla as an attractive destination for luxury investment.
‘The future opening of the Four Seasons in Plaza Nueva demonstrates the confidence that major international brands have in Sevilla and confirms that the city has become one of the most attractive destinations for high-end hotel investment,’ he said.
