A suspected gangland shooting in a tranquil golf urbanisation in Almeria has sparked concern among residents, a number of them expats.
It comes after they were woken by a volley of gunfire early on Friday morning when a German-registered Audi was riddled with bullets.
Around seven shots rang out at approximately 6.50am in the normally peaceful La Envia Golf urbanisation in Vicar, prompting multiple emergency calls from neighbours.
Witnesses said the shooting was preceded by a heated argument, with shouting and insults heard moments before the gunfire erupted.
When Guardia Civil officers arrived, they found shattered glass and spent shell casings scattered across the street.
The main target appeared to be a high-end Audi with German licence plates, which was struck five times while parked and unoccupied.
Two other bullets hit the façade of a nearby house, although no injuries have been reported.
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation and confirmed that nobody was hurt in the shooting.
Investigators have already identified a vehicle that was seen speeding away from the scene immediately afterwards.
While enquiries remain at an early stage, sources close to the investigation believe the attack may have been a suspected settling of scores linked to drug trafficking.
No arrests have yet been announced, and officers are continuing efforts to identify those responsible.
