A British amateur motorbike racer has died following a crash in northeastern Spain.
Samuel Levy, who lived in Alicante province, was killed on Sunday while competing in a round of the Copa JMR Amateur Speed Cup at the Circuit d’Alcarras in Lleida, according to the Mossos d’Esquadra.
The fatal accident happened at around 1.10pm when two riders collided during the race.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but Levy could not be saved.
The Catalan police force has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
In a statement, the Royal Spanish Motorcycling Federation (RFME) paid tribute to the rider, saying: ‘We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, team and all his loved ones during this time of enormous grief.’
It added: ‘Spanish motorcycling joins together in remembrance and respect for Samuel, sharing in the sorrow of the entire motorcycling community.’
Another tribute read: ‘I’m so sad to read this. I only met Sam at Jerez at Copa and he was such a lovely great guy.

‘Really helped me as I only know a little Spanish being a fellow Englishman. Been in contact since Jerez and I’m so gutted I won’t get to share a garage with him again. R.I.P mi amigo, thoughts with all family and friends at this very difficult time.’
Another friend penned: ‘I still can’t believe it, Sam. We had such a laugh on Saturday, so many shared circuits and pit boxes.
‘The circuits won’t be the same without you. My deepest condolences to your wife, your daughter, and all your family.
‘A huge hug to your father-in-law. What a tough Sunday. I still can’t believe it. Fly high, my friend.’
No further details have yet been released about the second rider involved in the collision or the circumstances that led to the crash.
