Bullfighting legend Morante de la Puebla is set to make his comeback 25 days after suffering a brutal rectal goring in Sevilla.
The matador has confirmed he will appear at the Feria del Caballo in Jerez de la Frontera on May 15.
The decision was reportedly finalised on Thursday following positive progress in his recovery from the severe injury he sustained during the Feria de Abril.
According to journalist Jesus Bayort, who is close to the bullfighter’s inner circle, Morante still requires more recovery time but is now considered fit enough to return to the ring in Jerez.
His appearance will dramatically shorten the recovery period initially expected after the horrifying injury, which affected the rectum and was officially classified as ‘very serious’ by surgeon Octavio Mulet.
Morante had originally hoped to return even earlier at Valladolid’s San Pedro Regalado bullfight this Sunday.

However, he has now ruled out that appearance, meaning he and fellow star Andres Roca Rey – who is also recovering from a serious injury – will both miss the Valladolid event.
They will instead be replaced by Alejandro Talavante and Borja Jimenez alongside Juan Ortega.
Morante is expected to return in Jerez alongside Roca Rey – should the Peruvian recover in time – and Sebastian Castella for a corrida featuring bulls from breeder Borja Domecq.
